Antique mall Christmas inspiration

My friend and I went “antiquing” last week. She is struggling right now with depression. She usually does very well managing it and usually doesn’t take any medication except for the months from about October through about March. This year she forgot to start them up because we was very involved in a project and seemed to be doing OK.

Until the bottom dropped out.

Anyway, we love DIY and having a house decorated with the unusual. She had learned of a new antique store. She needed to stay distracted until the pills kicked in.

We got some great idea and I wanted to share some pictures with you. Maybe it will give you some ideas as well. I thought these were adorable. Tiny trees in tiny tarnished silver containers. I looked for some at Goodwill with no luck.

I love this. I bought some books at Goodwill and will do this sometime this week.

How simple is this? Just need some two 2 x 4’s.

And how simple is this. I bought some Christmas sheet music and will be glueing them in a glassless frame. When Hobby Lobby has their 80% of sale, I buy a bunch of “signs” or pictures in those plain box frames (you know what I mean don’t you?), no matter what the signs or pictures are because I know I will be doing something different with them.

So I will be using those to paste in the sheet music. I will glue a small wreath in middle. Done! Just that quick.

Anything can be a container for a little “vignette” like this one. I have been putting trees in anything I can find.

Anyway, hope this gave you some ideas. Remember, distraction is a wonderful thing.

If you’re battling depression, try to avoid stress and contentious people. Prepare a plan for what you will do or say in certain circumstances.

Ask God for wisdom. God already knows what you are going to face. He already has a plan of escape for you as promised in I Corinthians 10: 13-15

No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it. (New English Translation)

I Corinthians 10: 13-15

I hope you find something you can be thankful for this Thursday. I really do.

God bless each of you.
